Who is considered more bizarre?
by incognito2014 injws or mormons.
from a public point of view not from people within the religion as that would be obvious.. examples of extreme beliefs or behaviour would be useful..

Have You Isolated Yourself Because of the Virus 🦠?
by minimus insome people i know have not gone out of their houses in weeks.
some will walk near their homes and run right back in.
meanwhile, i go food shopping and i see tons of people, many with masks and gloves on..

I haven’t been anywhere populated except the grocery store since 3/1. I do have some N95 masks and am sewing some other masks, I haven’t worn them until now. I do take the dog for walks, but do not interact with anyone.
My company is considered essential so we are all still working. I work from home normally and travel, so now am just working from home.
I can’t wait for this to be over. I see some of my neighbors still having lots of people over and play dates for their kids and think have you not seen what’s going on?
There is still an air of this can’t happen here as we are rural. The local tiny hospital has already said if you get corona virus don’t come here, we can’t help you.

The radicals make me feel like I have to defend Trump when I don't want to because of their crazy lies.
by JimmyYoung inas i have stated in other posts i voted for trump because he said he would crack down on illegals while the left was trying to open the flood gates and let them in to destroy the nation.
was he the one i wanted in 16, no i was hoping for cruz.
he is arrogant but smart and somewhat polished and had many views like i do.

I’m not so sure Trump is a sure thing. Unfortunately Trump is not running against Biden, he is running against COVID-19. However this all turns out is going to affect his re-election, and the economy being as it is will not help.

Yes, my neighbors were on the cruise ship that finally docked in California. The couple in their 60’s both got it and were quarantined at the Marine base in CA. Both are fine now, I’ve seen them out walking their dog. They said what they had was fairly mild.

Are we talking about the Corona Virus?
by DATA-DOG inif you haven’t watched the joe rogan podcast dealing with this virus, you should.. i’m wondering if the deluded gb will continue to schedule meetings of large groups of dubs.
they shouldn’t and neither should any other churches.. i can only cringe as i imagine groups of people coming together at mega-churches and conventions and conferences ( if you’re pentecostal ) and infecting each other while believing they are safe.. be smart everyone.
be informed.. dd.

Not where they are. Everything is still on except for the circuit assembly. -

My parents are both in their 70’s. They are auxiliary pioneering this month and the elders are reminding the congregation about the commitment they made to Jehovah to get their hours. It made my blood boil when my mother told me they are still going out door to door in the midst of this. I told them to stay home as they are in the age group most affected by this.

Why do Americans have to pay so much for College???
by RubaDub ini know there is a huge college/university lobby here in the us that lives off of students paying, in some cases, enormous amounts of money just to attend.. putting politics aside, if that is possible, (and i am not a bernie sanders guy by any means), but how can we pay for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary school, junior high, high school, and then throw a huge debt to someone who wants to continue learning?
can't the us (public and state universities) afford four more years for young people to get on a career path without having to, in some cases, take out a mortgage/loan more than the cost of some homes?
then, (and nothing against immigrants, i am married to one), but then the us has to "import" students from other countries to fill the needs that we should be supplying here.

I don’t want to pay for everyone’s college. As an example, I went to a State school for my undergraduate degree. I worked full time while I was in school and got some small scholarships, not a full ride. By working I paid for school and rent and living expenses. I got my degree with zero student loans and zero parental help.
A coworker went to the same college. He didn’t work at all and took out student loans for his tuition/books/living expenses and ended up with $75k In student loan debt. He financed rent, beer and pizza, but got to party for 4 years. I don’t feel bad for him at all, he could have owed a lot less if he made better choices.

Rec'd a letter from my Dad - need some advice...
by Fadeaway3pointer infader here - last meeting was in autumn 2005. lurker on this site and others.
not one to get all controversial.. typical situation, pretty much a born in and left the church at age 38 and never looked back.. i'm 53 now, parents getting older - late 70s but very active, dad is still an elder.. parents, in laws, brother and brother-in-law still uber active jws.. my family (wife and 2 adult children) out since 2005.. we have stayed close to our parents - we have treaded religion lightly and have had a pretty good relationship and have kept our personal lives and beliefs/opinions separated from them.
this was intentional - as we love them and do not want anything to cause shunning since they are getting older and want to be there for them and we respect their beliefs.. got this letter today.

When I was leaving I framed my interactions with my parents in the context that they are manipulators, and deal with them accordingly. It helped me to remove some of the emotion because I could see it for what it was - emotional blackmail. I wouldn’t accept it from anyone else in my life so why would I accept it from them.
We didn’t speak for many years. I graduated college, got married, started a career all with no contact. After I had been married for nearly 15 years they decided to contact me. I laid down the ground rules -I wanted a relationship with them but I wouldn’t be manipulated or guilted. I didn’t want to hear anything about religion. And it’s been working, mostly for a number of years:
